If you think about desert, Sahara comes first in any mind. Nevertheless, Australia is covered 70 % by deserts! Thinking about the desert, anyone knows that in a desert there is no life and the survive is very difficult. This is again a myth you will forget after visiting Alice Springs, which is located in the very middle of Australia. And in the middle of desert, of course.

Alice Springs, or Alice, or The Alice, as the Aussies shortly name it, is a small town with 25 000 inhabitants. It was grounded around 1870 when a cable line linking the Australian big cities was set in the desert. Enthusiastic workers discovered a spring here, and thus the town was founded. It is an important symbols for all Aussies, and maybe for all the mankind, of surviving in the most difficult conditions. The name of the Cable Company manager was Todd, and the name of his wife was Alice.
