Bratislava is a magnificent place to visit and even to live. Similar in many aspects to Prague, it offers a good feeling of safety. I would say: it is still a provincial city offering the advantages of a Middle European capital. It is very safe, it is not overcrowded by tourists and is relatively cheap ( not very cheap, but offers good value for the money you spend).

Bratislava is literally bordering Austria and Hungary; Vienna is only 50 km away, Prague 220; Budapest 400. Long time Bratislava has been in the shadow of these notorious cities of the former Hapsburg Empire. Bratislava met some dramatic changes in the structure of its population, which is nowadays 90 % Slovak. But in the Middle Age, under the name Pressburg, was renowned as German city. Also in the Middle Age, Bratislava was the capital of Hungary, under the name of Poszonyi! I would say, that Bratislava is like a capuccino: 3 in 1!
