Finding a Great Inexpensive Hotel

Tags: , , , , ,

Staying in an unfamiliar city, working on a budget, and trying to find a decent hotel… three factors that seem impossible to fit together. Yet, it is definitely possible to find a good hotel on a budget when you don’t know the area all that well.

The first option is obviously to stay somewhere you’ve been before. If it’s a city you haven’t visited before, try to talk to someone who has either visited or lived in this city and ask them about hotels they have stayed in or heard about. You could find a hidden gem this way!

If nobody you know has been to the city you are visiting, there are still ways of finding out which hotels are reputable and which to avoid at all costs… other than by trial and error.

But the chances are, someone has cycled that way before you. I have discovered a website that makes it easy to show you the best possible way to your destination.

For those of you who are into cycling and would like to discover new routes and places in United States, Europe and other countries need to check out Bikely. A free web-service that allows you to browse bicycle routes that are shared by other cyclists from around the world.

Bikely allows you to browse up to 100,000 bicycle routes. You can even add yours if it isn’t mentioned on the website yet. To narrow down your search you can also search for bike trails by country, by specific location and filter results by length of the route.

If there ever was a software that made you look like a treasure hunter (or a fool) then HeatMapper is it!

HeatMapper is a free Wi-Fi Mapping software, which allows you to find the best WiFi spots in a given area. What’s unique is how it maps them!

You are required to load an image of the area you’d like to map (eg. a floorplan of your 3 bedroom apartment) then left click the location you’re at on the floorplan image you loaded (on your portable) and slowly start walking around the wifi region. If you are on an airport this software could come in handy then as well.

HeatMapper will begin collecting signal data as you walk around! Its best that you left click your current location on the image frequently while walking around as this will help the software fine tune its findings. Once you’re done just right click and the data gets saved!
