Damascus is the capital city of Syria (an Arab country), and has borders with
Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Turkey. Damascus is located by the side of the
Barada River, on a high plateau (680 metres above sea-level) in the shadow of the
Anti-Lebanon Mountains. Modern archaeological studies in this area have shown
that the original settlement could have been founded as long ago as 8,000 BC, and
over the years this site has been inhabited by the Aramaeans, Romans, Greeks and
Umayyads.

For centuries Damascus was an important stop along the vast, winding
caravan trade route that led all the way from western Europe to the far east, and was
famous for its dried fruits, wines and fabrics, including ‘damask’, woven silk fabrics
that were produced in the city and sold all over the world.

Bangkok is one of those incredibly hectic cities that feels crammed from end to
end with people, all of whom appear to be moving about on the street and roads
at once. All this chaos, congestion and pollution can be a little overwhelming for
visitors, but Bangkok has always welcomed travelers with open arms, and there
is a friendly, approachable atmosphere here that is almost unique for such as
large, busy urban sprawl. Bangkok is also the gateway to the beautiful country of
Thailand, with its tropical climate, exotic beaches and stunning rain forests, and
prices throughout Bangkok (accommodation, food, attractions and excursions)
are so cheap that it makes the perfect destination for a tropical holiday for those
on a tight budget.

Chile is a narrow, extremely long South American country and this gives it a widely
diverse landscape, from arid desert wastelands in the north to icy glacial regions in
the south, with the magnificent Andes mountain range running along the eastern
border and the powerful Pacific  Ocean on the west coast. This is a fascinating
country to visit, not only for its stunning natural scenery, but also for its many vibrant
towns and cities
, which are full of lively bars, restaurants, shops and nightclubs, and
also its excellent range of outdoor activity facilities, including skiing, horse riding,
hiking and white water rafting.

Chile is one of the more stable South American countries, and has a successful past
in terms of trade and commerce, although the profitable minerals trade (the main
drive to the economy), has slowed down in recent years. Chile is also famous for its
excellent wines, and this export trade has provided a boost to the country’s economy
over the years.

History
Cannes started life as a small fishing town, and most of the land was owned by monks in the 11th Century, who expanded their monastery buildings right out to the nearby Island of St Honorat. The monks also built a square look out tower to warn the town of pirates, and this is still standing and is situated next to the Castre Museum in the Old Town area of modern Cannes. Tourism in the area began to take off when the town became a fashionable health retreat for wealthy members of both the British and French elite, and soon the dry, warm climate, stunning coastline and rapidly developing facilities were attracting wealthy visitors from all around the world.

Mongolia travel guide

Mongolia is a beautiful country, but it is very isolated as it is landlocked between two
vast countries, Russia and China, and a large part of it is very inhospitable, with the
Gobi desert in the south and vast cold mountainous areas in the north.

Mongolia is the sparceliest populated country on Earth, due to the harsh conditions

The rest of Mongolia consists mainly of the Steppes, which are flat and arid grassland plains with
some extreme weather, from very hot in the summer 40 °C (104 °F), to very cold in
the winter, down to as much as -40 °C (-40 °F). However this inhospitable and
diverse scenery is also truly magnificent, and much of it still remains completely
unspoilt by imposing modern necessities such as roads, traffic and urban
developments. Mongolia does have some cities and large towns, but outside of
these areas the traditional nomadic way of life still prevails, mainly because it is the
only successful way to exist in these extreme terrains and conditions.

If you think about desert, Sahara comes first in any mind. Nevertheless, Australia is covered 70 % by deserts! Thinking about the desert, anyone knows that in a desert there is no life and the survive is very difficult. This is again a myth you will forget after visiting Alice Springs, which is located in the very middle of Australia. And in the middle of desert, of course.

Alice Springs, or Alice, or The Alice, as the Aussies shortly name it, is a small town with 25 000 inhabitants. It was grounded around 1870 when a cable line linking the Australian big cities was set in the desert. Enthusiastic workers discovered a spring here, and thus the town was founded. It is an important symbols for all Aussies, and maybe for all the mankind, of surviving in the most difficult conditions. The name of the Cable Company manager was Todd, and the name of his wife was Alice.
