Many people celebrated the fall of the Berlin Wall. Germany organized in Berlin public meetings, concerts, festivities with participation of prominents who played a role during The Fall of Berlin Wall.

Unfortunately, a few people did not take part to these festivities. First, 10 % of the Germans who still don’t agree with the Fall (Mauerfall). The other normal German people say about them to bear the Wall in their heads (Mauer in der Kopf). This is a major challenge for Angela Merkel and other leading German politicians. Second: the 200 people shooted during their unsuccessfully escapes. But no one forgets them, especially in Germany. The former Checkpoint Charlie is today a museum dedicated to these daring people.

Only few people remember some facts about The Berlin Wall. First of all, how it appeeared in 1961: exasperated by the escapes from East Berlin, Walter Ulbricht and the Soviet occupation troops build the Berlin Wall practically by night. It was the first generation of the Wall, consisting of  barbed wire and fences. Later came the second and third generations of the Berlin Wall.

A myth of the Berlin Wall is that it divided Berlin. Practically, it divided Germany and Europe, and was a major issue during The Cold War. It was the most important part of the Iron Curtain. And the building of the Berlin Wall lead to a major crisis during East and West- a destroying World War could begin in 1961.

But who is interested today about these borning old stories? These are facts and are good to remember sometimes, and you could still see parts of the Berlin Wall. There are organized Berlin Wall Tours, and the most exciting and relaxing is the bike tour. After the Fall, large parts of the Wall were destroyed, easy to understand why. But you can still discover the Berlin Wall due to street inscriptions.

The most impressive remaining of the Berlin Wall is the East Side Gallery, a large piece which is all over graffitti painted. Don’t think that in its function years The Wall was so nice and atractive! It was whether hospital white or dark black.

The Fall of The Berlin Wall was for many people the most important event of their lifetime. Who experienced it during the life time, should discover the remainings. And who is younger and did not experience, should also try to discover the remainings of the Wall.
