Zeus. Aphrodite. Apollo. These are just a few Greek gods to be sure, but when you think of an Athens holiday, what comes to mind but ancient Greek gods and fantastic Greek myths?
Of course there’s more to an Athens holiday than Greek myths, there are many traditions and many great philosophers that came from Greece. And, of course, Greece also gave birth to the Olympic Games.
But if you were to take an Athens holiday, what you would discover is a beautiful land of luscious colors, on land and sea along a beautiful landscapes of rocky cliffs. Sounds almost like a fairytale, like a place out of one of your dreams. The brilliant colors, the relaxed way of life. Who can imagine living like that day in and day out. Talk about being spoiled, huh? Unfortunately, you only get to go for a holiday. Unless, of course, you up and quit your job and never leave. And who wouldn’t? An Athens holiday could tempt even the most dedicated of work-a-holics to reform.
If you are taking your kids along on your Athens holiday, then breathe easy. Athens has a few attractions that your kids will just love. Like the IME (Hellenic World Foundation) which is a museum that is kid oriented. Or the Athens Zoological Park having an outstanding collection of birds. If that doesn’t sound very exciting, maybe your kids will enjoy the Athens Planetarium. Their planetarium is said to be one of the best in the world.
And, of course, you have to have time to visit museums that interest you as well. Athens has a great selection of museums ranging from religious to archaeological there should be something that you find fascinating.
It’s an absolute must while you’re in Athens to make it over to Ermou Street. While it’s a great area to do some shopping, while you’re there you can also see the Kapnikarea Church and Plaka, the old city, as well as Thiseio, which is where the Big Archaeological Walk begins. This area is well worth the visit and you will absolutely love wandering around here.
Speaking of the Big Archaeological Walk, if you feel up to it, it’s a great way to see all the known and unknown sights of Athens. From the Dionyssos Theater to Acropolis and Agora you’re afforded a great deal of history and photo opportunities.
And, if you’re not too tired after strolling the city streets, then you should definitely check out the nightlife. Athens has quite a few bars and night clubs to choose from including open air beach bars. Talk about a nice relaxing vacation to just sit and enjoy your surroundings.
It doesn’t really matter what inspires you to take an Athens holiday as long as you get to do the things you want to do. Take your time, relax and enjoy everything that paradise has to offer. Really. Because who knows when you’ll get to be part of paradise again?
