Calgary is surrounded by stunning landscape, with the wild Canadian prairie land on one side and the rising slopes of the Rocky Mountains on the other. The city itself is an attractive mix of vibrant commercial districts with skyscrapers and traditional leafy suburbs, and both oil and tourism drives the booming economy. Calgary is a city in touch with the stunning land around it, and is known for its modern cowboy culture, which has breathed life into traditional beef herding skills that are ideally suited to the massive grasslands outside the city. In fact many people consider Calgary to be the modern day Dallas, with its oil and beef herds, and the likeness is fitting in many ways as the brash cowboy spirit lives on, and there are plenty of Country and Western bars and taverns. However Calgary is also a city of diversity, with cafes, fine dining restaurants, theatres and opera houses, so there is plenty of things to see and do for all kinds of visitors.

The Rocky Mountains attract a number of skiers and snowboarders to Calgary, and the winters here are very cold with perfect snowy conditions, (the 1988 Olympic Winter Games were held here), and also hikers enjoy the Banff National Park, famous for its beautiful alpine meadows and stunning deep gorges. Summers are balmy and warm, and there are plenty of pleasant, sunny days to enjoy.
