It’s not as hard to find information on Machu Picchu hotels as one might think. If you know anything about Machu Picchu, you know how primitive the area sounds. Steep cliffs that lead to breathtaking ancient ruins in the middle of a rainforest. It sounds like a setting for a novel, doesn’t it?

But in your novel is the hero on the run, using the rainforest as cover? Is he sleeping on the ground, fighting off all kinds of insects and predatory animals? Or is he on a grand adventure, sleeping in comfort on some of the softest mattresses, enjoying culinary delights most people can only dream of?

While your Machu Picchu hotel selection is slim, it’s not impossible. Even the slim choices are better than the hero that has to fight off the insects to sleep in the rainforest.
So Machu Picchu is home to only a few hotels and one very expensive lodge. So it depends on what kind of style you choose to vacation in. Some people prefer luxurious while others are very happy to have four walls and a bed. Chances are you’re not worried if you’re considering a Machu Picchu vacation. But just in case you are…

The Machu Picchu hotels are decently priced. Some offer good amenities while others offer only the basics. Such as the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Hotel. They have some great amenities including a gift shop, pool and a restaurant. There’s also the Presidente Hostal that offers the bare necessities for room amenities, but does offer a restaurant or cafeteria as part of its facility. All of them offer discount rates depending on the time of year that you go. The Sanctuary Lodge, however, is definitely worth the price you pay. Like the hero in the second scenario as a matter of fact.

The Sanctuary Lodge is a wonderful retreat for anyone considering a vacation in Macchu Picchu. They offer a beautiful view in a great location. When you stay here, they cater to your every need. But there is a price that has to be paid for this kind of service. And it’s steep. But if you can afford it, then it is well worth the cost. The view alone is probably worth the cost.

When it comes down to it, everyone prefers to have a soft, downy mattress to lay their weary body on after climbing a heart stopping cliff. Or trekking through the rainforest. Or an exhausting afternoon shopping and eating. Even bird watching can greatly tax you when you’re on vacation. But it is not necessary to lay your body on a cloud.

If all you’re  looking for is an adventure, then sure, it’s fun to make an expensive and exclusive lodge part of that adventure. But if you’re happy with a hot meal and a bed, then any of the lodgings should be suitable for you. A vacation does not have to be extravagant to be memorable.
