The Sanctuary Lodge is nicely located right next to the Machu Picchu site, but you do pay a premium for that convenience. Less expensive accommodations can be found in Aguas Calientes which is just down the hill from Machu Picchu. There are many hotels and hostels in this small city, but if you need the 4-5 star hotel treatment then you can't go wrong with the Sanctuary. Either way, staying over night near Machu Picchu allows an early morning visit to the site before the crowds arrive from Cuzco on train.
