This was sad to read. I know climbers know the risks they get themselves into but no one ever goes in thinking it'll be them. The poor families. That said, just reading about the technical difficulty of that mountain has my head swimming.

That said K2 is an absolutely beautiful mountain and I can totally see the allure. Would love to go trekking near the base at some point - but that'll be about as high as I'd ever go.

I tried water rafting once and would like to go again. I don't mind nature touring too. But no mountain climbing...I have a fear of heights!

I think the climbers of these 8000m peaks are well aware of the risks and almost certianly die doing something that they greatly love. Is there a better way to go than doing something we love?

Very true. But other 11 climbers are dead.
Which is your cup of tea, beside reading, blogging, traveling?

Amazing K2 photos..but climbing is not my cup of tea. Last nite, I watched the news and it seemed an avalanche hit K2 and some climbers went missing...2 got rescued and treated for frostbite in army hospital in Pakistan.
