Paris is one of the greatest cities in the world, where history, culture, art and business collide to create a fascinating and beautiful place that visitors return to year after year. Paris is also known as the ‘city of lovers’, and this is partly because of the many romantic restaurants, parks, coffee houses and hotels, and partly because of the special Parisian ambience, which is both relaxed and laid back, and also full of glamour and joy de vivre.

Eiffel Tower in Paris is still the city highest bulding
Paris is beautiful anytime of the year, but it is particularly stunning in spring, when the public parks and gardens are just coming into bloom, and everything feels fresh and bright. This time of year is also the off peak season, from February through to the end of April, and you can get some very good deals on cheap flights to Paris and also accommodation. Watch out for the dates of Easter each year though, as Easter Weekend can be very busy, and flights and hotels can be more expensive at this time. The peak seasons in Paris last from May right through to late September, and the end of November through to mid-January. Paris is very popular for Christmas shopping and New Years Eve celebrations, and there are also a number of busy fashion shows in the first few weeks of January so these times are normally the most expensive of the whole year for tourists. Valentines Day is another busy time, as Paris is a very popular destination for romantic weekend breaks. Mid summer is always busy, but as it is traditional for the French to take their holidays in August, you may find this time to be quieter in cities like Paris, with many of the smaller shops and cultural attractions closed or with limited opening times as everyone heads for the coast. During the peak seasons in Paris you may find it very difficult to book a hotel, especially in the cheaper establishments, so it is important to arrange accommodation as soon as possible if you intend to visit during the summer or Christmas time.

Paris Chrles de Gaulle airport is one of the world's busiest
Paris has two airports, the largest being the famous Charles de Gaulle (also know as Roissy) to the north of the city, and the smaller Orly airport is to the south. Roissy is one of the busiest airports in the world and serves 150 separate airlines, and there is a huge range of international and domestic flights. Roissy is known for its hectic terminals, and there are plenty of facilities such as bars, restaurants, cafes, shops, accommodation and a bureaux de change and post office. Trains, buses, taxis and hire car companies link Roissy to the city and the rest of France. Orly is slighter closer to the city centre, and only serves 30 airlines, making it much less busy and hectic than Roissy. Many of the budget airlines land here, and there are rail, bus and taxi links into the city, as well as shuttle services to Roissy. Orly has plenty of facilities including cash machines, bureaux de change, shops, bars and restaurants, and also a small medical centre. Orly has some excellent accommodation including Hilton Paris Orly and the Ibis Orly.
If you are thinking of visiting Paris then there are plenty of cheap flights from the UK, and as Paris is so close, flights only last around 1hr and 15 minutes. Most airlines provide good deals in the off peak season between February and the end of April, which you can book in advance. British Airways are currently offering a return economy class ticket to Paris Roissy from London Heathrow for just £102 (www.britishairways.com). Air France also has some good discounts from London Heathrow to Roissy, and in March you can get return tickets from as little as £112 (www.airfrance.co.uk).
