I ordered ATT DSL service. When I had their DSL modem they had sent me installed on my computer which took repeated phone calls to their install dept. and hours to get it to even work my computer began disconnecting itself from Instant Messaging, my Inernet connection and then was unable to do anything after an auto. update. Then the screen went completely black & not even the key board would light up when the caps lock was pushed and on. Upon trouble shooting through their DSL install dept. they discover the problem is a faulty modem and I will not be charged the $40.00 fee for it. When I asked, "What about my computer that is no longer working because of it?" that is when they began showing their true colors. I call back the next morning to get a working modem so I am able to use their DSL service I am now under a one year contract to pay for and to be able to see if my computer will even work again to use their service. They tell me there is no record of them trouble shooting the night before or the results and that the only way I could get another modem was to pay ATT and only ATT to come into my home and check the lines, modem and my
computer!! Then I called them as instructed in the install kit to get the numbers it said I needed to send the faulty modem back for a replacement and was told they would NOT give them to me and even if they did they would not send nor would I get a replacement. When I had my computer guy check it out, it turns out the mother board on my computer was distroyed. Best Buys said a faulty modem can very well have caused this problem. So I go out and buy another new computer, seeings the last one was 1 week past it's extended warrenty. Now I am told another modem will cost me $149.00. RIGHT!! So I have no modem to use their DSL service even if I did care to risk my property to their equipment again but will not let me out of the year contract with no regard to me or the fact I am out the computer I had, I am out the new computer to replace it, I am out what the fee for the DSL service or billed $200.00 for early termination plus all the stress and bull. I have been hung up on, lied to and treated with such disrespect that once I am out of this contract I will never use ATT again. Think they offer good service?? Look for a number, ANY phone number for ATT for anything other than buying thier "services" and/or products. There are NONE. Try the phone book, look on the internet, look on your bill!! There are none on mine. I have contacted them over the Internet and all I get is the same "service dept" numbers to sell you more stuff. Look up the terms on your "inside wire maintenance plan" if you have it like I have for years. But when I called to have the lines checked to try to get the modem replaced I was asked how any phone jacks we had and we were using in our home I was told the coverage was void seeing I answered we were using two jacks because you must have the coverage on each & every line in your home!! A fact that was never mentioned when it was offered and I accepted being told "it was too smart and such great protection." Also you will find in the "small print" that if they come to your home to check your inside lines, if they find nothing wrong or the problem was let's say with your phone unit, you are charged for the call. And check out those rates!! I have called the F.C.C., the PUC and I am calling the State Attorney's Generals Office. Anyone that thinks ATT offeres such great "service" has never not needed it beacuse it does not exist. Even when they caused the problem and property damage to begin with. They are rip off losers and they will answer to a higher power. Their money will get them no where in the end. While their greed and disception will surly win them a place in hell. How many poor old ladys and old men have paid for that inside wire protection they were offered for years only to be told they wasted theier money and they were expected to pay full price?? I guess they will have to decide rather eating or having contact with the outside world is more important to them. Millions of us have been ripped off and are being ripped off by ATT over the years or maybe it was just me...

I'm not surprised about A.T & T.'s Service, I have used them for many years and have always been able to rely on them in difficult situations where I absolutely had to get a phone call through.

I use them right now and have been doing so for about 15 years solid. Yes, I have strayed before with better offers to different Phone service providers. But A.T.&T. does a smart thing and keeps in touch with you, so when things start to unravel with the plan you have or they have a better offer, I change back, usually. I also use them for an Internet Service provider as well.

I am glad to hear that they are giving you good service. It's nice to know when traveling.

Ah, so they are partner with vodafone? I learned before that it also supports other telephone companies worldwide such as singtel (singapore) and pldt (philippines) among others.. well, that is in asia, i can only imagine the big partners att has in europe and america... that makes their service very competitive, diverse and great!

thanks for sharing.

It is not very surprising. When I was back in university, i have done a study (case) about this att and it is pretty strong and very established. They can do much good to the market and if a company is already established, it cannot fear competition but on the contrary, can even crush it competitors.

Talking about the services you mentioned, although I have 3g phone, i never tried using it yet. I often use PC to communicate with image. The blackberry plan is white expensive huh? I love flat rates, but it is only advisable or advantageous if i am planning to make a lot of calls, right?

That is amazing but I am wondering how telephone companies alone, without expanding to other kinds of communication business these days survive.. There are a lot of cheaper alternatives that has no cost like skype, google talk, yahoo messenger and the likes.. yes, even though they are internet based, the phones these days are mobile and also hi tech.. just wondering...

Or, as the majority, the phone companies are also the ones backing the internets... that is one good plausible explanation.

Thanks for sharing the info by the way, although I live in Europe, this info might be helpful to me one day.
