The Adriatic Sea, a body of water located between the Italian peninsula and the Balkan Peninsula, bordering the east coast of Italy .The Sea which derives its name from the ancient Latin word ‘mare Superum’.

The sea covers approximately 60,000sq miles in area. The depths of the sea shares a perfect physiographic with the nearby coast, wherever coast are high and mountainous the depth of the sea is considerable, the shores are low and sandy along the coastline and contains lots of sediments such as pebbles and stones. The coast and island of the sea is low and merges northwest into nearby lagoons, on either sides of river Po. Rivers such as Reno, Po, Adige, Brenta, Piave, and Krka all derive water from the Adriatic Sea.
Country like Montenegro, formerly with Serbia got its name after the black alpines, also referred to as black mountains. Many cities alongside the coast include Trieste in Italy, Koper in Slovenia as well as Duress in Albania, all share something in common. These cities experiences cool climatic temperatures because of their location near the sea; this comes about due to sea actions and sea breezes. At night the temperature of the sea drops slightly, warm air rises, and sends cool night breeze along the coast and its environs.
The shore of the sea keeps retreating backwards, as the water makes contact with the nearby rocks at the base, these colored rocks which can be viewed at the side of the sea, as well as mountains. Some parts of the area around the sea are highlands and are luxuriant to plant growth, hence a very thick vegetation of trees can be seen around the sea.

The sea flows between countries like Croatia, Montenegro, and Albania with lesser part through Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The sea, a blue and crystal-like body of water was best remembered as a port during the times of the ancient Romans, who made use of it to transport goods as well as slaves. Since then, the sea has not been forgotten.
Communities along the coast have been able to set up administrations in other to protect the sea’s environment. A forum known as the Adriatic and Ionic community was set up in April 1999 in other to put in place instruments, decentralization and co-operations between conflict communities. So far so good, this has helped in bringing lasting peace among cities across the sea’s bother. The aims of the project have not been defeated, and the sea has continued to improve co-operation among the various cities.
