Bilbao in the Basques Land

The spanish city of Bilbao is a special one. Not a megacity (500 000 inhabitants), but also not very cheap, ranking fourth in Spain after Madrid, Barcelona and San Sebastian.
The city is located in a hilly region, in the Basques Land, on the banks of Nervion River. The Basques are proud of them and of their wealthy capital, and sometimes some indepententists try to gather attention through attentats. But it is a safety place after all.
It is located in the golf of Biscay (Biscaya in Basque).
Bilbao was founded in the Medium Age , became in 1600 already the capital of Basques Land, and flourished due to industrial revolution(mining, shipbuilding etc).
It was always a touristic attraction due to its wonderfull hill location(trekking and climbing are possible), museums, hotels and appartments.
What I found very special in Bilbao is its Guggenheim Museum. It looks very avangardistic, is made of titanium and was designed by the leading architect Frank Gehry. It is considered to be one of the wonders of our world, and it surely is.
Very interesting in Bilbao is also the night life. From the building of BVBA Bank you can get a wonderful panorama of the full city!
