Bora Bora information

Many people asked me : what makes Bora Bora so special?

First of all, the name. Sounds good, exotic, strange and msterious. IF you use only initials B.B. it is also very nice, you can think to Brigitte Bardot.

Second, is the position and the geography. Bora Bora is a typicall atol in the ocean, described also by Charles Darwin! There is a reef barier in the ocean, reef in the lagoon, and a rich world of underwater creatures. The climate is unique, the colour fantastic(mainly blue). Fantastic are also the hotels and the prices! Bora Bora is not cheap, on the contrary. The inhabitants are not very many, speak french and tahiti. But also english, as they are mainly occupied in the travel industry.

The tourist come mainly from USA, Japan and Europe.

The island has been populated since antique times, and became a french protectorate in the XIXth century . During the World War II it was an important american base in the Pacific Ocean. But the americans left short after the war(big canons are still to be seen). You can make island tours with jeeps, but even better with bikes and motor bikes! Island capital is Vaitape(4000 inhabitants) which is not special.1931 the german legendary director Friedrich Murnau turned hier a movie,Tabu, and 1978 the Hollywood producer Dino de Laurentiis turned the catastrophic movie Hurricane.
