Vina del Mar is Chile’s most attractive touristic destination. The Chilean are very proud about their Vina, and with a good reason. One month ago Vina del Mar hosted the G20 summit, which was focused on the today global crisis. That means a lot: world’s most powerful leaders joined in a spectacular destination. And they were very happy in Vina del Mar for sure! It remains only to hope  that they met the best decisions for our future.

Vina del Mar means in Spanish “the vineyard of the coast”. All around there are unending vineyards, and you can taste the result in the many gourmet restaurants of Vina del Mar. Start with the Cabernet and Pinot gris, they are simply fantastic!

Vina del Mar is easy reachable, it lies 10 km away from Valparaiso and 150 km away from Santiago de Chile. You can reach Vina del Mar by car, train or plane. The city itself is not very big, counting 200 000 inhabitants, but is very picturesque indeed. It was grounded in 1878, and in 1930 was opened in Vina del Mar the first casino, which was surely decisive for the further development as touristic destination. Even if you are not a gambler, you must visit this casino for its exquisite art deco architecture. And there are many other old palaces and houses in Vina del Mar showing a wonderful old architecture in some different styles.

Vina del Mar has a wonderful mild Mediterranean climate. In summer is not very hot due to ocean breeze, and in winter there is no morning fog, which allowed the development of a rich vegetation in the city’s many parks. Notice please the Flower Clock, which is really unique. In only fall rain in summer, but not very much, don’t worry about your beach vacation in Vina del Mar. The temperature remains always between 10 and 25 degrees Celsius, making it so pleasant for a Vina del Mar vacations. The end of the summer peak season is marked through the Vina del Mar Song contest, held in the last week of February.

A special mention for the beaches of Vina del Mar. Renaca is the best in my opinion, but there are still other interesting ones. You can swimm, sail, surf, dive and so much more. You can also try a walk along the ocean, trying not to miss the Old Pier offering a good sight onto the ocean and the city.
