You can find all over city some buildings from the good old Victorian times, as Melbourne was in 1890 the second most populous and the richest British city, due to the Australian Gold rush. Then took place a market crash, but the city survived and flourished after a few years again. The crisis periods came and gone, but the city persisted. Now Melbourne is a little less than Sydney, Australia’s biggest city. A strong competitions is given between these two cities, and according some scenarios Melbourne will overcome and become again the biggest city of Australia in 5 years.

The city of Melbourne lies on Yarra River and counts nowadays 4 000 000 inhabitants with the most diverse origins. You can find in Melbourne the biggest Greek and Italian communities outside Greece and Italy, Vietnamese etc which give to the city a strong multicultural taste. The people of Melbourne are mostly sport freaks and the city hosted in 1956 a memorable edition of the Olympic Games. There many museums and an intensive cultural life, and on the other side many fancy boutiques with last fashioned products. It is said that you can see during a day in Melbourne more good dressed people than during a month in Sydney!

Melbourne hosts (and is a wonderful host) every year one of the Grand Slam tennis tournaments and also many important art and film festivals.
Visit in Melbourne the Federation square, the city landmark, walk on St Kilda Esplanade and discover the Sunday Flea Market. Make shopping on the exclusive Brunswick Street, and don’t miss the vibrant night life of Melbourne! There are many things to do in Melbourne, be sure to stay there at least one week.
