Nairobi is such a young city, and nevertheless so interesting and magnetic for so many tourists. It has a magnificent secret charm which made all the tourists to declare mesmerized how good and comfortable they felt in Nairobi. Despite the major dangers abounding in Kenya: malaria; terorism, crime, lions, crocodile and buffalos. But Nairobi, lieing at 1660 meters above sea level has a too cool climate for the mosquitos. About the crime, it is easy to protect yourself watching your stuff and not going out late at night.

At 1890 here was only an endless swamp, and the city was build as a pit stop on the railway from Mombassa to Kampala(Uganda). After a few years, Nairobi became the most important station on this railway, and shortly after the capital of the english East Africa. When Kenya claimed its independence in 1956, Nairobi was the first choice as the capital of this country. Since then, it grew constantly, being today with its 4 millions inhabitants one of the most important african cities.
Most of the people living in Nairobi are extremely poor; a half of the population lives on 5 % of the surface. Many of them are orphan children or mutilated, after wars who took part in this corner of our world. Because of this extreme poverty, the crime rate grew constantly, and Nairobi was also named Nairobery! People say also, that a major explanation for the big crime rate is even the police coruption.

Nairobi offers a fabulous wildife, even in the middle of the big city (Uluru Park, elephants orphanage, giraffe feeding center) and is undoubtly one of the world’s safari capital. Nairobi offers further wonderful shopping possibilities, excelent food and fine hotels, reminding the good old colonial times. Many city quarters still keep their english names, and if you are kean on the Kenya’s rich colonial history visit the Karen Blixen museum ( For the little of you who don’t know who was Karen Blixen keep in mind this: she was a danish baroness living in Nairobi from 1913 to 1940. When she left her beloved Kenya, she wrote Out of Africa. The Hollywood movie based on this book featuring Meryl Streep was awarded with seven Oscars!)
Nairobi is a flourishing multinational and multicultural city. Many of the multinational companies settled in Nairobi their african subsidiaries, and so did also the international organisations like UNO. One of the african symbols, the snowy peak Kilimanjaro is visible from Nairobi in the clean days.
I think to have given you some reasons for visiting Nairobi. Do it soon, simply do it, I hope you will never regret it!
