When you are planning a beach holiday you probably don’t immediately think of Peru, but this South American country has a Pacific facing coastline of over 2,500 km, which is dotted with some of the most beautiful and exotic beachfronts in the world.

For those that like the glamorous life there are a number of top class beach resorts, particularly to the south of Lima, which is the capital city. Here you will find long stretches of white sandy beaches, washed by the cool clean waters of the Pacific ocean, which are perfect from peaceful sunbathing, and also a variety of water sports including scuba diving, snorkeling, yachting and jet skiing. Some of the beaches in Peru are not suitable for swimming, as there are some tricky underwater currents and water quality is poor in some areas, so make sure you check each beach out before you jump straight in the water.

Beaches in Peru are also popular for their entertainment facilities as well as their beauty. There are lots of nice hotels and seafood restaurants dotted along the beachfronts, as well as a good number of sailing clubs and yacht marinas. Concerts are often held on wide sandy beaches in Peru, and these can become very exciting and crowded at weekends, with lots of additional entertainment such as small food and market stalls. There is also a wealth of attractive colonial architecture in the neighbouring towns, as well as day trips to the famous Inca sites that are buried in the Peru’s native jungles. The Amazon rainforest is in close proximity to Peru, and many travel companies also offer adventure tours into this area, as well as bird watching and animal spotting expeditions.

Because beaches in Peru attract such a lot of wealthy visitors, petty crime is always a small problem. To keep safe make sure you keep an eye on your belongings, and don’t carry any unnecessary currency or traveller documents on your person.
