In Russia the kitchen is an important part of the national culture, similar with France maybe. They use a lot of cereals, including for desserts.
It does not mean that meat is unknown! On the contrary, with such wide forest and plains, there are a lot of domestic and savage animals on the russian tables. Fish is also wide spread, the russian caviar is worlds best!
By the beginning of the XiXth century the russian cooks inspired themselves a lot from the french cuisine. The result was excelent, tasty and still holds on. Remember and order: kvas( weak alcoholic drink), blinis( caviar apperitives), russian borsh( a kind of soup), the Stroganoff filet( initially based on horse fillet), prijaniki(sweat biscuits with honey, chocolate and spices ).
They drink also wine, but rarely. rather vodka, of course.
