Huge city, indeed. Fast the half of the all Chile population lives here.
All national and international companies have the main dependancies here. It is no doubt the Capital of Chile.
The city was founded 1541 by Pedro de Valdivia, a spanish conquistador. The position was very good for fighting against the rebel indians, on an island of Rio Maipu.
1813 also on Maipu River(Rio Maipu) took place a decisive fight for the independance of Chile and Argentina.
As a capital of a new state, Santiago started to florish. They were founded universities, museums etc.
Nowadays Santiago is experiencing many problems of the big cities: air and water pollution(it lies in a valley surrounded by mountains), insufficient ways of circulation, jams, overcrowded plazzas .

The kitchen is fine, special and very different from the spanish kitchen. They are many restaurants and bistrots all around, there are many museums, parks, stadiums. Tou will have no time to bore in Santiago, and I am sure you will enjoy your stay there. Tell me please if it is so or not and report me about your other travels.
