Rio de Janeiro means the River from January and is a totally surprising city. If you did not visit up to now Rio, you can do it by the beginning of February, when the world’s biggest party, The Carnival from Rio, will be held one week long on the streets from Rio.

Rio de Janeiro is surprising and overwhelming. It is a huge city with 15 000 000 people called cariocas. Rio has a few land marks : The Sugar Loaf, The statue Of Christ Redentor ( one of the seven wonders of the modern world ). Rio de Janeiro is one of the most dangerous cities worldwide, as the poor favelas dominated by the drug dealers are neighboring to the normal or luxury quarters. Beware yourself, specially by taking part to the Carnival of Rio, don’t take your valuables with.

During the XVIIIth century when Napoleon conquered Portugal, and Brazil was a Portugal colony, the capital of Portugal was moved to Rio for a few years. Thus the magic Rio de Janeiro was the first non european city becoming an european Capital.

Rio de Janeiro is very well renowned to its wonderful beaches Copacabana and Ipanema, which are really amazing. You can be sure to find plenty of bars, restaurants and entertainment in these two neighborhood. Order caipirinha, is delicious. Rio de Janeiro means also the poor favelas(e.g. Rocinha), and you can take a favela tour contributing to the development of these favelas. Remember, you can speak to locals during your favela tours, but you may not take any picture!

There are a few things made special for the cariocas: football, dance and sex. During the Carnival take place huge orgies, and many people say Rio is the world capital of love. If you, as a foreigner, try to dance, the cariocas will note in a minute! They have the rhytm in their blood and are absolutely fantastic! The legendary Pele was born in Botafogo, a quarter of Rio de Janeiro.

A travel to Rio de Janeiro is unforgettable and unbelievable.
