Bangkok is one of those incredibly hectic cities that feels crammed from end to
end with people, all of whom appear to be moving about on the street and roads
at once. All this chaos, congestion and pollution can be a little overwhelming for
visitors, but Bangkok has always welcomed travelers with open arms, and there
is a friendly, approachable atmosphere here that is almost unique for such as
large, busy urban sprawl. Bangkok is also the gateway to the beautiful country of
Thailand, with its tropical climate, exotic beaches and stunning rain forests, and
prices throughout Bangkok (accommodation, food, attractions and excursions)
are so cheap that it makes the perfect destination for a tropical holiday for those
on a tight budget.

Bangkok has a tropical monsoon climate, so the best time to visit is in the warm
winter and early spring months, (November to January), as the summer months
(March to May) can be extremely hot and humid, which can be very
uncomfortable for those not used to it. The rainy season (June to October) sees
the temperature drops a little, but the humidity soars with frequent and heavy rain
storms that batter the city, making sightseeing almost impossible for much of the
day.

There are so many things to see and do in Bangkok you may not know where to
start at first, but a trip to the city would not be complete without a visit to one of
the amazing temples, such as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho),
which is the oldest and largest temple in the city, and contains one of the
countries most impressive sights, the gold plated statue of the Reclining Buddha
(48m long, 15m high). This temple is a also place of learning, and visitors are
welcome to find out more about the ancient Thai medical practices, and have a
relaxing and invigorating massage.

Other popular sights are:
* The Damnoen Saduak Floating Market – this hectic market is a tantalising
glimpse into the rich history and culture of the people of Thailand, and market
stalls are held on small boats that power down from the surrounding river villages
and farms to sell their wares to people on the banks, from the stilt houses
perched across canals and to other boat travelers.

was constructed in the late 18th Century for the coronation of King Rama I. The
palace is really a collection of smaller, individual buildings and temples and the
Royal Chapel (Wat Phra Keow) houses one of Thailand’s greatest treasures, the
priceless Emerald Buddha.
* National Museum – this is located in the grounds of the Royal Palace, and has
some wonderful displays and exhibits of objects and artefacts dating all the way
back to the Neolithic period. It holds Thailand’s biggest collections of art,
jewellery and archaeological treasures, and is well worth a visit if you are in the
area.

Bangkok is famous for its diverse, energetic and very adult nightlife, and across
the city there are some weird and wonderful bars, cafes and nightclubs, where
you can meet friends and relax and unwind over cheap drinks, delicious food and
cheerful company. The dazzling neon streets of the Pat Pong area are of course
infamous for their many strip clubs and shady dives, but there are also some
excellent bars and evening street markets here, so it is also very popular with
locals who just want to have a quiet night out with friends. Thai Cuisine is
delicious, and full of subtle and intricate combinations of powerful tastes, such as
limes, chillies and lemongrass, and many excellent restaurants throughout the
city such as the popular Samboon Seafood Restaurant (worth a visit just to taste
the house special chilli crab), and there are also plenty of good international
restaurants serving a range of food from French through to the traditional British
fish and chips.
