Limassol, Cyprus

Limassol is the second biggest resort in Cyprus, and is the perfect destination for those who enjoy a vibrant and bustling nightlife. Lisamassol is situated at the foot of the Troodos Mountains and rivals Ayia Napa in terms of bars, clubs and parties. The port area is busy and boisterous all times of the day as not only are there many bars and restaurants in this area, but it is also one of the busiest ferry ports in Cyprus with daily trips across to the Middle east.

Accommodation in Limassol ranges from luxury seafront apartments and hotels, to villas that can be rented out for large parties. Limassol also has a large town centre with plenty of shops which offer a good range of different merchandise from traditional tourist gifts to modern fashion clothes and accessories.

If you do get tired or partying and fancy some day trips then Limassol does offer some good museums and also a medieval fort, which is near the old port and was built in 14th Century. This is thought to be the site where Richard the Lion-heart married his queen, Berengaria Navarre, 1191. Also linked to Richard the Lion-heart is the Castle of Kolossi, originally built 1210 but remodeled in 15th century. The Knights of St. John were awarded the castle for their efforts during the crusades, and under their rule Limassol flourished. They produced the famous Commandaria wine from here, which was extremely popular all over Europe at this time and brought the town great dame and fortune. It is thought Richard the Lion-heart and Queen Berengaria spent their honeymoon at Kolossi Castle.

Limassol has some great beaches such as the Curium beach, which is very popular with swimmers. The surrounding area is also very beautiful and perfect for gentle walks and also the carefully restored Roman Curium Amphitheatre is directly above the beach. If you enjoy hiking then there are some quiet and peaceful treks across the foothills of the Troodos Mountains just outside of the town.
