I think that ruins have something fascinating. Visiting ruins you will not do shopping, gambling, and neither you will find luxury hotels or swimming pools. Nevertheless, visiting ruins is very appealing for very many people around the world. It is first of all, a good occasion for meditation about the growth and decay of that city, and you can figure how was the daily life in that city you are visiting. Further, you can think to the future of the mankind and imagine the today spectacular megacities in a few millennium! Some of them will probably be ruins, even if you are not prepared to accept that.
But let’s go now to the basics: I will propose to you some of the world’s most famous and most interesting ruins. If you have other opinions, options and approaches, please feel free to say it!
1. Macchu Pichu is a former Inca capital located in the Peruvian Andes. It is very difficult to reach Macchu Pichu, you must climb mountains and hike through the jungle. This amazing city decayed shortly after the conquest of the Inca empire by the Spanish conquistadores, and has slept for centuries, swallowed by the jungle, until it was rediscovered in 1911.

2. Palmyra has been for centuries a flourishing city in the Arabian desert on the antique fascinating Silk way. Palmyra is an oasis with a hot spring, which made it so attractive for camels caravans. But also for the Romans, who conquered Palmyra and changed the Silk way, which led to the complete decay of Palmyra.

3. The Roman Colosseum from Rome is by far the most famous of all these ancient ruins. I bet that anyone from you could recognize The Colosseum from the first sight. It is really amazing to imagine the managing and logistic efforts to build such a building 2000 years ago. Even today it would not be easy! Visit Colosseum and be amazed to know that the Romans knew and used concrete! The Colosseum lies in the very centre of Rome, and there are daring plans to use it again!

4. The Temple of Parthenon from Athens is a peak of Doric art. The old Greeks had such a feeling for harmony in all its forms. It is maybe the most visited place from Athens, despite the many entertainment possibilities of the Greek capital. Could seem unbelievable, but is true, and is really a good news for the ones who still believe in a happy future of the mankind.
