Sydney has a lovely sunny climate, and the weather is guaranteed to be fine for at least 300 days of the year. Winter occurs during different months in Sydney due to its position near the equator, so the coolest months are actually in June and August, with December and January being the hottest months of the year. Therefore the peak tourist season in Sydney lasts from the end of November through to February, when the weather is at its warmest and the beaches and harbor areas are filled with visitors. The Sydney Surfing Festival also takes place around this time, which is very popular and brings in crowds from all round Australia and the rest of the world.

If you are on a budget it is best to visit Sydney during the spring time (between August and October), when the weather has just started warming up again and the parks and gardens are at their best. You can get lots of cheap flights at this time, as well as some great deals on accommodation. There is a chance of rain during the spring, but it normally clears away quickly and Sydney is rarely bothered by any really bad weather.

The Airport Rail Link is the fastest way to reach the city once you arrive at your destination, and trains run every 10 minutes during peak times. CityRail provide an excellent commuter train service, and also connects Sydney to Australia’s national rail network. Sydney’s bus system is also very well organized, and one of the best ways to see the city is by the Explorer Bus service, which stops at more than 20 places of interest around the city center, harbor and beaches. You can also get Harbor Taxis, which can ferry you across the water to new destinations around the harbor, and will even drop you off at one of the lovely waterfront restaurants. Regular taxis are a convenient way to get around if you are new to the city, and all taxi companies are licensed so it is safe to hail them on the street. Sydney is difficult to drive around as there are many confusing one way traffic systems and very busy junctions, and also parking is restricted so it is not advisable to hire a car during your stay in the city.
