For many people an international vacation is something they always dream of but never accomplish. If you want to quit dreaming and start living, then these tips will certainly help you begin planning. Traveling international is no easy matter and tons of steps must be completed prior to taking your vacation.

  1. Start with obtaining a passport. You will definitely need this if you plan on going outside of the United States.
  2. Choose a location. If you are visiting a country that is less developed, then shots and immunizations are usually required. Going to Africa requires certain shots to ensure you don’t get sick during your travels.
  3. Start saving money as soon as possible. If you are the only one traveling $5,000 is a good number to aim for. If you are traveling with a significant other then more money is highly recommended.
  4. Prepare to buy groceries rather than eat out everyday. Preparing your own meals is much cheaper and healthier.
  5. Gather the bare minimum that you need to take with you. You don’t want to pack tons of luggage that could get stolen, lost, or damaged.
  6. Consider purchasing traveler’s insurance for valuable items. This will come in handy if you lose something or get something stolen. This is especially true for expensive cameras and devices. Plan ahead!
  7. Learn some of the language for where you will be visiting. This will prevent scams on your part. It doesn’t hurt to carry a translation book.
  8. Try to avoid dressing like a tourist. This will definitely get you laughed at and you will feel out of place.
  9. Dress for the weather. If you going to multiple countries then dress according to the weather in those places.
  10. Travel in a group if possible. It’s cheaper, safer, and more enjoyable to spend time with those you love.
