If you’re going on vacation, well, then there’s many things to do in Madrid. Even if you are having to go on vacation, you should really insist on one more day before you come home. After all, why should you go to such a beautiful historic city and not get to see any of the delights the city has to offer?
Some of the things to do in Madrid include artistic tours, theme parks, and ancient ruins. That is such an eclectic array of things to do in Madrid. It really is. It’s like offering all of the wonderful things of home, such as amusement parks and mixing it with the past, hence, the ancient ruins. Madrid is truly where the past meets the present.
If you’re not interested in the theme parks or the ancient ruins, take in a bullfight. It’s truly one of the best attractions. While it can be a little brutal, it is an event that has been part of Spain’s culture for centuries and there’s really nothing quite like seeing it in person.
If all else fails, go shopping. If you really run out of things to do in Madrid and don’t want to venture outside of Madrid, go shopping. It’s what some people think that vacation is all about. And, besides, you have to take home some souvenirs, don’t you? So go shopping. It’s a great way to waste an afternoon.
You can also spend an afternoon sitting outside at one of the many fantastic restaurants. Try the authentic Spanish cuisine, or find something more palatable to your taste. The choice is yours, but with outdoor seating, there’s no better way to while away an afternoon people watching.
Whether you go to Madrid on your own, with someone else or with your family, there is so much fun to be had. You can stay in Madrid or you can venture to other areas of Spain and do more sightseeing if that is what you wish. But one of the best attractions of visiting Madrid is that you don’t have to rush. You’re not on any schedule and you don’t have to do anything you don’t really want to do. The beauty of Spain is that you can relax, enjoy your vacation and still get to see and do so many fun and wonderful things. Why go on a vacation where you have to pack so many activities into a day? Why go on a vacation that will leave you more exhausted than when you went? The whole point to taking a vacation is to enjoy seeing a brand new place. Not to run a sightseeing marathon. Go to Madrid. Take in the sights. Relax. Enjoy the food, the people and the beauty and history of the city. But don’t under any circumstances, rush through your vacation there.

Madrid has TONS to offer for people of all ages and interests.
In these hot summer months, the best time to be out and about is in the early mornings and, even better, the late evenings (when the city really comes to life).
A few suggestions for the hot afternoons:
- Go local and try a siesta! There’s a reason the spanish like to kick back after a massive lunch!
- head to one of the many pools around the city, or take a trip to the water park!
- As mentioned above, go shopping! You will often find air conditioning this way, especially in the bigger shops.
- Head to one of many fantastic museums. The Prado, the Reina Sofía and the Thyssen are all Air-Conditioned and delightfully cool inside. There’s so much to see, by the time you come out the city will be back to another (much cooler!) summer evening.
All the best,
Chloé
