Officially is called California Route 1, and it is also called as Pacific Coast Highway, or PCH; many people call it much simpler Highway One.  But one thing you must agree with me: it is the world’s most beautiful highway. It goes from the Northern to the Southern California along 1000 kilometers in a rocky environment and offers some of the world’s best coastal sceneries.

Sometimes goes straight, but usually windy, through or near world known cities as Santa Barbara, Los Angeles,San Francisco ,Monterey, Santa Monica. The wonderful bridge Golden Gate is also a part from Pacific Coast Highway, and even the notorious and outrageous Orange County is on the way.

If you are in a hurry, you can simply go through from Los Angeles to Long beach in the Northern California. If you are lucky and plan it so that you don’t reach rush hours and traffic jams, you can make it within a day, but you are going to lose many great views. If you have the necessary time for spending a vacation in California, please stay more and you’ll never regret it. Make some  stopovers in  the major cities, and smell the vacations in the air. I wonder who works in California, as everybody is vacationing. They go surfing, swimming etc and obviously they don’t go to work! An idea would be riding the bike, the distance can’t scary you, unless you think to the Rocky Mountains you are going through! My tip:if you are not a trained skilled biker with a long experience behind, you’d better avoid so many mountain climbing!

One of my secret tip is to spend a night in the quiet peaceful camping from Jalama Beach. You can even sleep on the beach.

There are many interesting and wonderful places along Highway One, and it is so hard trying to select a few of them. For the architecture freaks: you can reach very easily from the highway The Hearst palace. The press mogul did not spare building this palace, even on the contrary: everything is opulent. It is not a must do, in my opinion. Not far from Hearst Palace there are the Piedras Blancas ( from Spanish, it means “The White Stones”), which is a natural reservation with thousands of sealions, making an amazing view.

A little bit further, the fantastic Big Sur. The Spanish say it is ” el pais grande del sur” (the big southern country). Nevertheless, not the dimensions are the most important for Big Sur, but its strange beauty. The important writer Henry Miller was mesmerized by this region, and published a theater play located here, fearing that the civilization will bring here crowds of people. Fortunately, it did not happen, and you can still get Big Sur in the genuine state that Henry Miler did.

Avoid California and its surprising Highway One during the long dried times when disastruos fires occur. Otherwise, I am sure that you are going to like the Pacific Coast Highway.
