Did you hear about Port wine or Madeira wine? I am sure you did. They come from Portugal.
Further, did you hear about Lisbon, Porto, Algarve, Funchal? These are cities or beach resorts in Portugal.

There are many things to say about Portugal, most western european coutry, which is the former roman province of Lusitania. In the Middle Age after the muslim Moors came and invaded the Iberic Peninsula, the spectacular phenomena of Reconquista managed for the independence of Portugal (XIIIth century).
Portugal has only two neighbours: Spain and the Atlantic Ocean. Therefore the portuguese had a strong vocation of explorers and sailors, and the most famous explorer is Vasco da Gama. In the Middle Age Portugal had one of the greatest colonial empire, with Brazil as a crown jewel. The collapse of this empire and the independence of Brazil caused many problems in Lisbon.

This was very shortly the rich history of Portugal. What about the Portugal vacations? Well, there are many possibilities of Portugal vacations: visit Lisbon, visit Algarve, visit Funchal on Madeira island. Visit Alentejo and its plains scatered with cork oaks. Drink the tasty portuguese wines and eat bacalhau( dried cod fish) or carne de porco(meat).
Get a holiday timeshare in Portugal, a country which is worth to a visit. Many british pensioneers settle down in Portugal seduced by the mild climat and pictural landscapes. The portuguese wines and women are very tasty and temperamental, beware of them.
90 % of the portuguese are roman catholic, but only 20% attend regularly a church. 10 % of the portuguese are immigrants from the former colonies and estern Europe, who came to portogal after the construction boom from 1998 after the hosting of World Exhibition. On that occasion were build the Vasco da Gama Bridge, which is the longest bridge in Europe, and the Vasco da Gama Tower.
For the culture freaks, do not forget to visit the Coimbra University, which is one of the european oldiest. Visit also the Lisbon museums and the Lisbon oceanarium, which is Europe’s greatest and is absolutely fabulous. If you are lucky, you can get and watch a carnival, which is a magnificent show of light, music and alegria de vivre(joy of life).
I am sure that you will never regret your Portugal vacations. You will neither notice the time going by. And I am sure you will wish to come back, on the wonderful wide beaches of Algarve or the narrow streets of Lisbon oldtown. Do not mention the glasses of Port and Madeira or the tasty food.
