There are several other companies that offer affordable South African vacations, many of which can be found locally. Often, you will be able to find discount trips through local travel agencies during certain times of the year that are considered low tourist seasons. This is especially true of non-guided tours, such as the self-drive trips that are offered all year long.
These self drive tours are a chance to get out and see South Africa for yourself. Normally, you will be greeted at the airport by an official who will give you everything you need, including information on your hotel accommodations, your car rental, and, most importantly, your route. You will be asked to follow this route, and not make your own way, as there are areas that can be dangerous, as with any other country. You will also be given a list of emergency numbers in case of a problem.
