If you don’t know what Machu Picchu is, then there’s no way you’d ever think to make that your next vacation destination. But it really is a place to be considered. That is if you like to explore new culture and try new things. And if you’re a little bit adventurous that might help, too.

A Machu Picchu vacation would mean work. Not in the traditional sense, but there isn’t any relaxation in the traditional sense, either. A Machu Picchu vacation also rewards those tourists willing to work to see it. However there are some nice Machu Picchu hotels where you can rest.

Machu Picchu is a “Lost City” hidden high in the clouds. It’s also perfectly tucked away in the rain forest. So when you take a Machu Picchu vacation, there’s plenty of hiking. Even if you choose to take the train over to Machu Picchu from Cuzco, don’t be fooled. The trek to the top of some of the ruins is breathtaking. Literally and figuratively.

But if you really didn’t go on vacation to be sweating and out of breath, you can always do some bird watching. It’s amazing the different birds that can be frequently spotted on a vacation to Machu Picchu.

If you’re not interested in the ruins, hiking or bird watching, you will be hard pressed to find a reason to go to Machu Picchu on vacation. But you might want to consider stepping out of your comfort zone. Really. There are a lot more places in the world you could go and be pampered and babied. Where you can visit art galleries, the theater and endless museums. You can even lay about the beach all day. But how would that be any different from any other vacation you’ve ever taken?

If you go to Machu Picchu, it won’t be like all those other vacations you worked your tail off for only to go home with the same experiences, just a different place. Why not go somewhere that offers you the chance to really experience something different? Taking a Machu Picchu vacation will give you that opportunity.

Can you imagine seeing falcons and eagles that are not in cages? Or hiking up cliffs to see some of the most religious and ancient ruins? To touch the Intihautana Stone and feel its healing power? Or what about trekking through the rainforest. Everything you could learn is amazing. And it’s all tucked away in the little country of Peru. This is what your vacation should be about. This is what you should be working so hard to enjoy. Not that next spa treatment. Not shopping in designer shops half way around the world. Experiencing life.

And if you really, really need to go shopping, enjoy some semblance of a typical vacation, then Machu Picchu does offer some shopping experiences. It might not be what you find in Paris or Milan, but you could find some souvenirs to help you remember this wonderful and unexpected experience. Don’t plan your next vacation without considering exotic Machu Picchu.
